Size Changes More Than Looks

Smaller pebbles cover more area per tonne and read as a fine, even texture; larger pebbles look bolder, stay put better in water and wind, and hide dirt less. The same stone in two gradings produces two different landscapes.

Typical Pairings by Application

Fine gradings suit beds, joints between paving and raked areas; mid gradings suit general ground cover and borders; larger gradings suit dry creek channels, water margins and wind-exposed sites. Confirm available ranges on the supplier's grading chart rather than assuming standard sizes.

Estimate Coverage Before Ordering

Coverage depends on size and depth together. Use the stone quantity calculator with your area and planned depth, and add a margin for uneven ground. If you are between two gradings, the smaller one is usually the more economical choice per square metre.
